Neurological examination as a second opinion

A neurological evaluation can be used as a second opinion to assess an ongoing treatment. For example, to ensure it aligns with the most current treatment guidelines. In addition, neurological expert opinions are used in objection and appeal proceedings when the outcome of a previously conducted expert opinion or assessment is in dispute. In the event of a conflict between an insured person and the insurer or between an employee and the company physician, the person concerned may also take the initiative to seek a second opinion.

A second opinion provides clarity at:

  • questions about the presence or absence of a neurological disorder
  • determining functional limitations
  • determining usable possibilities
  • stagnating recovery or reintegration
  • the evaluation of previous treatments
  • identifying treatment options and reintegration pathways

How does a neurological examination proceed?

Application

Once we receive the request for a neurological consultation, we will contact the person requesting the examination. within one business day to schedule the examination.

The examination

The examination consists of two parts. The first part includes a detailed discussion with the neurologist about symptoms and limitations. The second part consists of a physical examination in which higher cerebral functions (thinking, memory, planning), cranial nerves (functions in the face), motor functions (movement, strength), coordination, reflexes and sensibility (feeling) are tested, among other things.

Additional research

If, after the examination, there is still uncertainty about the cause of the symptoms, the neurologist may choose to request additional (imaging) testing such as an MRI scan. This will of course be discussed beforehand.

The report

The findings are presented in a report. This is sent to the person requesting  If the applicant is not a physician, the report will not be sent to the applicant but to the physician listed in the request form.

Information on progress

Our secretariat can inform you about the progress of the examination at any time.

Right of inspection and correction

The report is subject to inspection and correction rights. This means that, before sending the report to the applicant, the person concerned receives a copy of the draft report and can indicate whether there is an incorrect representation of facts. Depending on the context in which the examination takes place, the person concerned can also block the transmission of the report.
