Since the beginning of this year, Sazyes has been working with NeuraNed: an AI-powered system that helps structure complex case files. It is not intended to replace the physician, but rather to serve as a tool that provides support and insight.
Insurance physician Raoul Hermanns, who works at Sazyes, co-founded NeuraNed with AI engineer Philip de Rijk. Their shared philosophy aligns perfectly with Sazyes’ vision: technology should empower professionals, not dictate their actions.
From a practical problem to innovation
At Sazyes, staff work with complex medical records on a daily basis. Based on his experience, Raoul Hermanns recognizes how the shortage of insurance physicians, combined with increasing administrative pressure, is putting a strain on the profession. “We’re spending more and more time reading, summarizing, and reporting, when the focus should really be on medical judgment and conversations with clients,” he explains.
Together with Philip de Rijk, he explored where technology actually adds value. Not by taking over medical decisions, but by organizing information and providing clarity. “AI is very strong at analyzing and structuring,” says Raoul. Philip adds: “We leverage that strength, while the doctor always remains in control.”
A single dashboard for complex cases
NeuraNed automatically analyzes all medical documentation in a patient’s file and converts it into a clear timeline and summary. From a few pages to hundreds. “Where you would normally spend a lot of time searching and scrolling, you can now see the relevant medical history at a glance,” says Raoul.
It is important to Sazyes that the physician always retains control. The insurance physician validates the information, adds details, and determines the tone and content. The system adapts to the physician’s personal writing style and workflow. Additional context, such as guidelines or consultation notes (for example, via speech-to-text), can also be added. In this way, NeuraNed supports the physician’s thought process without taking over.
Pilot at Sazyes
In the fall of 2025, Sazyes launched a pilot program with NeuraNed for insurance physicians. The results were positive. Since January 2026, the system has been in use by insurance physicians, and the company is exploring the possibility of expanding it to psychologists, psychiatrists, and other specialties. “The quality of assessments at Sazyes was already high,” says Raoul. “This tool helps to document that quality more consistently and to better substantiate it according to established guidelines.”
Users report saving an average of 20 to 30 percent of their time, while also noticing an improvement in quality. “For me, this means that the report is often already mostly complete before I even start working on it,” says Raoul.
A commitment to accuracy and privacy
For Sazyes, due diligence and information security are prerequisites for every technological innovation. NeuraNed operates with strictly segregated environments for each organization, encrypted data, and processing exclusively within the EU. Data is never used for other purposes or for training models. NeuraNed is also ISO 27001 and NEN 7510 certified. “Information security is essential, especially in a medical context,” emphasizes Philip.
