A Personality Assessment is a psychological examination for the presence or absence of a personality disorder. A personality disorder is a psychiatric diagnosis that, in short, involves character traits that exist from young adulthood and cause problems in multiple areas of life. Such as in school, work and relationships. The personality assessment consists of a comprehensive social biographical history and psychological testing in the form of an SCID-5-P.

Combination with psychiatric examination

An important requirement for the existence of a personality disorder according to the DSM-5 is that the symptoms appropriate to it are not explained by another mental disorder. Or can be attributed to the physiological effects of a substance or a physical condition. For a definitive judgment regarding the presence or absence of a personality disorder, current guidelines therefore recommend combining the examination with a psychiatric examination or a Psychiatric examination.

How does a Personality Survey work?

Application

Once we receive the request for a neurological consultation, we will contact the person requesting the examination. within one business day to schedule the examination.

The examination

The examination is conducted by a (neuro) psychologist. It begins with an interview in which you will be explained exactly what the test consists of, what will happen with the collected data and your rights. Then the test itself will take place, consisting of an extensive questionnaire. In particular, you will be asked about symptoms or problems during the course of your life that are typical of someone with personality problems, and the influence of those symptoms on your functioning during the course of your life. The questionnaire consists of two parts. The first part deals with biographical information and information about your work history. The second part is a questionnaire that asks structured questions about various personality traits.

The report

The findings are presented in a report. This is sent to the applicant for the study. If the applicant is not a physician, the report will not be sent to the applicant but to the physician listed in the request form.

Information on progress

Our secretariat can inform you about the progress of the examination at any time.

Right of inspection and correction

The report is subject to inspection and correction rights. This means that, before sending the report to the applicant, the person concerned receives a copy of the draft report and can indicate whether there is an incorrect representation of facts. Depending on the context in which the examination takes place, the person concerned can also block the transmission of the report.
